Tourism in Rutherford County continues to grow at an impressive rate, according to a news release from the Rutherford County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The latest figures released by the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development and the U.S. Travel Association show Rutherford County that saw an increase of 5.9 percent in tourist spending from 2016 to 2017.

Tourism-related spending in Rutherford County in 2017 increased from $331.89 to $351.45 million, placing Rutherford County in the top 10 counties across the state for travel-related expenditures. The numbers reflect the highest increase Rutherford County has seen since 2013.

“We are thrilled that the economic impact of Rutherford County’s tourism spending continues to accelerate,” said Destination Rutherford Chairman Bill Jones. “Destination Rutherford remains committed to growing this type of revenue and supporting the CVB in its expansive marketing efforts.”

Money that tourists spend in Rutherford County at restaurants, hotels, retail stores, entertainment venues and on transportation directly impacts our community—without the money generated by tourism, every household in Rutherford County would pay more in state and local taxes, every single year.

"We are very proud of the growth across Rutherford County,” said Rutherford County Convention and Visitors Bureau Chair Travis Emore. “It’s no surprise that tourists continue to spend their time and money in our community. These numbers validate the efforts of our CVB team in marketing Rutherford County as a tourism destination.”
